many projects. This page exists for him to update you on his progress in
whatever he's working on at whatever time. Everything other than this brief
description is in Derek's own words.
Greetings, y'all. With the
website having been down and out for so long, you're probably all quite behind
on the news--unless you've been reading my blog, and who knows if I've said
anything worthwhile on there for the past few months? So let's catch up, shall
we?
The project I'm working hardest on at the moment is my third solo
record, "Out from the Light." It's a darker piece--a near concept record. It's
basically a record about dysfunction and my own personal demons. You can read
more elsewhere on the site (or you will be able to soon...I'm not really sure
what the posting order is for the site), but suffice to say, it's kind of
intense in places.
So...the progress...
Drums are done. Bass is
done. Guitars are sporadic, but I'm hoping to complete them by the end of the
month. (Underline the word "hoping" in your mind.) Final vocals will be
completed after the guitars...but if I died tonight, the tracks that are there
are certainly useable--just incase a Rich Mullins thing happens. Then we bring
in Dan and do some piano/keys. It'll get done, it'll get done...that's been my
mantra for like six months. Life's been busy, I guess.
I'm also doing a
lot of work with Blue Tattoo. We're rehearsing our butts off, and we're doing a
photo-shoot this weekend. Shortly thereafter, there will be loads of website
content on our own website. We have a demo recorded and we'll either put it up
as a download, or we'll sell it or something. I'm excited about this project,
and I expect--nay DEMAND--big things from it. We sound good. Really good. I
don't often say that about my own material...but screw modesty. We're
good!
I'm also playing pretty regularly with the Michael Feldman Group.
We play blues and classic rock covers. Not quite the artistic writing projects
I'm used to, but it's a lot of fun and provides some walking around money. It's
always a good show. We've been off for the month of June, but it picks back up
in July.
As I said...life's been busy! Keep tuned to this page, and I'll
update you as it happens. From this point on, I'll be focusing mostly on the
solo-record for the updates...at least until Blue Tattoo has any major
developments. The Feldman Group is really Mike's thing. You can check his
website for updates on that.
