It's probably obvious that the biggest piece of news is the relaunch of derekbrink.com (and it's about time!). However, there is a lot going on in Team Brink that bears mention.
You may notice the "Downloads" link over to the left. You'll want to go there next week. Derek's started a page with OurMedia.com that he's really excited about and of which he wants you to take advantage. One of Derek's favorite ways to relieve stress is to lock himself away in his home-studio and record himself. Sometimes the recordings are simple. Sometimes they're ridiculously complex. For the first time in his career, Derek is choosing to give you almost unlimited access to his dementia by allowing you to download some of these sessions. There is a link in the "Downloads" section that will take you to a page of mp3s that you can download. He'll be posting random updates as he sees fit. Some will be new recordings of old songs (even stuff that appeared on "official" releases!). Some will experiments. Some will be new demos that haven't found a home yet. You can have them all. For free.
Derek will be periodically updating that page. Some stuff will be added. Other stuff will be deleted. So here's the catch... When it's gone, it's GONE. Derek may leave stuff up for months...or it maybe for days. All we know for sure is that he's starting it next week (June 30-ish).
As for the rest of his world...
Derek is still hard at work on the new record, "Out from the Light." Much of the artwork on this site is pulled directly from the liner of the CD. Derek hopes to post a lengthy update about that soon, but suffice to say, it's going well. He's in the midst of guitar-work, and even though he's taking his sweet time (lazy punk) he assures those in the know that it'll be worth it. Keep an eye on his blog for future details--and just for fun!
Many of you know that Derek also plays guitar and sings in the St. Louis rock band, Blue Tattoo. Blue Tattoo has recently recorded a demo and is in the process of compiling a press-kit for distribution. There should be some details coming out about THAT soon, too.
