Biography - Short Version

This is Derek's more "professional" bio. Kinda dry, but at least it's readable in one sitting.

Name: Derek Brink

Birthdate: 5/29/80

Guitar Influences: Pete Townshend (The Who), David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Denison Witmer, Rick Nielsen (Cheap Trick), Edge (U2), Patterson Hood (Drive-By Truckers), Mike Cooley (Drive-By Truckers),
Stone Gossard (Pearl Jam), Mike McCready (Pearl Jam),
Waylon Jennings, Jim Heath (aka "The Reverend Horton Heat"), Frank Black, and probably a few others too...

Vocal Influences: "Pretty much whatever I'm listening to at the time...but if I could choose, I'd list people like David Bowie and Freddie Mercury...the truth, though, is probably somewhere more along the lines of a weird mix of Pete Townshend, Frank Black/Black Francis, Roger Daltry, Patterson Hood, and Dennis DeYoung--embarassing as that last one might be."

Personal Statement:

My musical career has been long and varied. To try to sum it up in a few paragraphs is a kind of futile effort. The short version is that I've always loved music, and I've been playing it since I was about five or six-years-old (if you could call it "music" then). I've been in a number of bands and worked in a ton of side projects--only a selection of which are noted above--and until recently, I even called music my "job" working in a church as a music minister.

I'm incredibly proud of my work with my different projects from the past, especially the stuff I did with Uncle Dick, The Michael Feldman Group, and union jack. If it's possible, though, I am even more proud of the stuff I'm doing today as a member of Blue Tattoo and as a solo artist. I'm proud to be working with the people I'm working with, and I feel truly fortunate to have found myself in the position I'm in.
